The Knights of Columbus offers men a place to lead their families and communities in faith and service and put their faith into action. Knights of Columbus members, parishes and families have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference through 32 Supreme Council-recommended programs in four broad categories.
In the opening lines of Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel), His Holiness Pope Francis invites “Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ”. The Faith in Action program model extends that same invitation to Knights of Columbus members and their families. It is a renewed personal invitation to live out the calling of our Christian faith, the call to service of their neighbor and to answer the age old question, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Gn 4:9).
We may find answers in one of our Lord’s most well-know parables, that of The Good Samaritan (Lk 10:25-37).
How will we respond? Will we be like the priest and like the Levite described by the Savior, and turn our heads, walk across the road, and proceed in an unconcerned and selfish way? Or will we follow the example of the Good Samaritan and thoughtfully and sympathetically assist our neighbors and brothers in their time of trial, and thus receive the blessings of our Heavenly Father?
The choice is ours to make.
May the Lord bless us that our decisions will be correct and righteous ones, for which we humbly pray, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
