It’s that time of year again, the annual Tootsie Roll drive is upon us!
This Knights of Columbus signature charity drive is all about accepting donations for the benefit of local mental health charitable organizations and handing out a few thousand Tootsie Rolls in the process. This is a great opportunity for Brother Knights who are seeking an opportunity to directly engage with the community and make a direct impact on a very worthy cause.
Last year we had a great drive, collecting over $5,000 and splitting the money between two charities:
- Special Needs Ability Program (SNAP): https://www.specialneedsabilityprogram.org who offer programs that benefit special needs youth in Central Florida.
- Primrose Center: https://www.primrosecenter.org who have been transforming the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Central Florida since 1952.
This year we will continue to partner with these organizations and we will have their support throughout the drive. Both organizations will provide literature and posters to help us communicate our intentions to the public. We are also exploring the possibility of having a tour of their facilities to make the connection between the hard work we are about to do and the faces that we will benefit.
The drive will last from October through January. We will be handing out Tootsie Rolls at local grocery stores, All Souls and Nativity churches, the All Souls School and possibly a few other venues not yet scheduled.
The first set of dates are: 10/5, 10/12 and 10/19 at the Winn-Dixie on Lake Mary Blvd.
